The only Climate Tech in Europe to offer innovative and efficient solutions using all natural refrigerants – ammonia, CO2, propane and water – announced its Scope 4 current contribution to decarbonization target on the eve of COP29 closing day.
Lyon (France), 21 November 2024 – Enex Technologies, European leader in natural refrigeration and Climate Tech solutions, is the only European HVACR company who launched its Scope 4 emissions tracker during SIFA 2024 exhibition.
This year’s edition of SIFA has spotlighted the significant role of innovative cooling solutions in addressing climate change, perfectly aligning with Enex’s commitment to decarbonizing the planet through the adoption of natural refrigerants and the perfect stage for Enex Technologies’ scope 4 counter announcement.
The Scope 4 emissions, or “avoided emissions,” were firstly introduced by the World Resources Institute in 2013. Unlike traditional scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3), which measure emissions directly or indirectly linked to a company’s operations and value chain, Scope 4 focuses on the reduction in emissions achieved through the use of a product or service.
As a leading provider of sustainable cooling technologies, Enex Technologies believes in leveraging natural refrigerants as an essential strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning sectors. According to Eurostat, EU buildings are responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe which makes the scope 4 a key aspect for the sustainability of the whole industry.
Enex Technologies’ presence at SIFA 2024 highlighted the company’s innovative solutions that align with the three pillars of the COP29 strategy:
- Mitigation: Enex Technologies’ cutting-edge refrigeration systems are designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By utilizing natural refrigerants such as CO2, Enex Technologies helps businesses lower their carbon footprint, contributing directly to climate change mitigation efforts.
- Adaptation: The company’s solutions are engineered for resilience and efficiency, even in the face of changing environmental conditions. Enex Technologies’ systems are adaptable to various climates and operational demands, ensuring reliable performance while minimizing environmental impact.
- Finance: Enex Technologies is committed to making sustainable refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning accessible and affordable. By offering cost-effective solutions and demonstrating the long-term financial benefits of natural refrigerants, the company supports the financial viability of environmentally responsible choices.
Enex Technologies proudly launched over the last day of the SIFA exhibition in Lyon its Scope 4 Emissions counter, which is now fully available on its website homepage and quarterly updated based on a proprietary algorithm.
Since 2004 – when Enex was founded by Sergio Girotto, the first engineer to design a CO2 unit – Enex Technologies has contributed to emission savings of more than 1.1 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent with the adoption of its low-GWP products and the replacement of systems using conventional refrigerants with severe environmental impacts.
“Our participation in SIFA 2024 is a pivotal moment for us to share our vision and solutions that align with global climate goals,” said François Audo, CEO Enex Technologies. “ . Many of the conversations this week both in Lyon and Baku have been about how to manage and regulate the obvious externalities presented by climate change. HVACR is essential for electrification and as an industry it has historically used fluorinated gases for the heat exchange process. Our Scope 4 emissions tracker is a further recognition of how we can make a real impact together with our partners and clients”.
This move comes as the most recent step of Enex Technologies’ ESG roadmap, which accelerated over the first 9 months of 2024 thanks to the launch of the first double materiality analysis of the company, the Ecovadis “Committed” Badge and the adhesion to UNGC initiative. These milestones, coupled with the introduction of the first Sustainability Policy of the company, in the second half of 2024, highlights Enex’s commitment to enhancing sustainability across its entire value chain and lay a solid structure for its future growth.
